A comforting & cosy porridge bowl with a chocolate Nutella-like twist. A perfect comfort breakfast for any time of the year. Gluten free and vegan friendly.
As so many of you have asked for a recipe for this delicious Nutella porridge bowl on Instagram, I’m popping in to post the recipe for this delicious chocolate porridge for those of you who can’t wait to indulge in this decadent breakfast! It really does taste like Nutella, apart from it doesn’t contain refined sugar (I replaced it with maple syrup) or unnecessary palm oil fat (it’s been substituted with healthy fats from nuts). If that’s not good enough, this ultimate porridge bowl is also vegan & gluten free.
What do I need to make chocolate Nutella porridge?
- Oats (gluten free if required)
- Plant milk (I used almond milk)
- Ground cinnamon
- Raw cacao powder
- Maple syrup (or agave syrup)
- Roasted hazelnuts
- Almond or hazelnut butter
- Garnish of your choice ( I used banana & puffed amaranth)

How to make Nutella porridge
- In a small pan bring the milk to a boil. Once boiling, add the oats and puffed amaranth (if using) and turn the heat down to gentle simmer. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add cinnamon, cacao powder and maple syrup and cook for another 3-5 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed (if the porridge is too thick at this stage, add a little water to get to the desired consistency).
- Take the porridge off the heat (at this stage you might want to taste the porridge for sweetness and add a little more maple syrup if needed) Add 1 tsp almond or hazelnut butter and mix well. Transfer into a serving bowl, sprinkle with roasted hazelnuts and garnish with banana.
Enjoy this utterly delicious Nutella porridge bowl, my fellow chocolate addicts, and thank you for stopping by on my humble blog.
