Ever since I started my personal fitness journey in May 2015, it turned into more than just toning up, growing a six-pack (I still can’t see one of those by the way) or chiseling a bikini body. Little did I know that starting a Bikini Body Guide by an Australian fitness guru Kayla Itsines would spark a refreshing yet challenging journey of spiritual self discovery.
In this blog post I’ll provide a little glimpse into my personal story and share some of my favourite personal development books and resources that I’ve uncovered so far. I truly believe they are real treasures which will help you tap into a new world of limitless beliefs and possibilities.
So, where did it all start? I created my Instagram account on a whim back in May 2015 after finally purchasing Kayla’s Bikini Body Guide as a way of documenting my fitness journey, staying accountable for what I was doing (and the food I was consuming) and sharing my personal struggles and victories with like-minded ‘BBG sisters’. On my journey I met some incredibly inspiring women from different parts of the globe who were united by the same passion – become fit and learn to love, respect and appreciate their unique bodies. I’ve made friendships with some fiercely inspiring and supportive ladies, some of whom have become my real life friends and my biggest supporters – for this I’m forever grateful to the universe.
It’s through this fitness journey that I discovered my real passion for healthy cooking, recipe development and food photography. Inadvertently, it was the beginning of the ‘occasional cold dinners phenomenon’, which made my family wait for me to put that damn camera down, so they could tuck into their no-longer-hot dinner…
As I learnt to look after my body through exercise and nourishing it with wholesome food, I also started awakening my spiritual self from a big snooze. I truly believe that each one of us has a unique purpose to fulfil on this planet and although I’m at the very beginning of finding mine, it already feels liberating and refreshing to be finally doing something I’m really passionate about.
I’ve put the sources for my favourite self-development books, apps, websites and podcasts below. If you’d like to share any of your favourites with me, I’d love to hear them.

OMG!!! I’m a huge fan The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, and I’m so excited to see that you are also a fan! I need to read the others of her books from this series, I’ve heard that The Magic is also great…
As for the meditation, I really didn’t get on with Headspace and ‘Andy’s’ voice was just annoying me, so I have un-installed it 🙂 but I would love to give meditation another go, so may try the other options you have listed!

That’s what I call great minds Anna! I would wholeheartedly say that The Secret was the book that started my personal growth. I gulped it all in one go (didn’t realise how thirsty I was for personal development!)
Oh sorry to hear you didn’t get on with Headspace. I would recommend recent meditation podcasts from Gabby Bernstein – she has a lot of free resources on Spotify and Podcasts app on the iPhone.
I hope you’re enjoying your French adventures Anna. Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day xx
